A bit of Sharp Practice

We sometimes play Sharp Practice, as the chap who I game with most has a large French collection. I've got mainly Portuguese (gallery below) but I will be adding some Spanish to them soon enough along with some more Portuguese.
Here's a small write up of a game we had yesterday (Friday 12th June) Didn't take many photos during as we were having far too much fun!

The basic scenario was the Rescue of Lady Fakham. She was visiting a nearby church and forgot the time. Her escort had gotten lost and it was up to the Portuguese and Royal Navy to go find her and bring her back to headquarters before the French got their hands on her.
The Royal Navy started just outside the village and the Portuguese at the opposite end of the table. The French started down the left hand side.

It was a good start for the Portuguese who managed to get the drop on the French and charged willy nilly up the road towards the village (as cavalry are want to do). The Royal Navy also got a decent start and entered the village.
After a couple of turns, the luck of the tokens turned and the French got several excellent rounds in. The main consequence of this being is that the oh so heroic cavalry got wiped out without the chance of any real support.

The same happened to the Royal Navy wherein, after they entered the village they sort of ground to a halt. Most likely arguing as to where the secret stash of rum was that had been rumoured to be in the village.
With the Portuguese cavalry basically on the run and the regulars looking a little bit shaky, the cacadores were steadily making their way to the church on the hill. Hopefully getting there before the voltigeurs beat them to it.

Unfortunately for the good guys (obviously I mean the Portuguesse-British alliance), the voltigeurs made their way up the hill to the church and introduced themselves to Lady Fakham.
The Royal Navy however, now having realised that there were more important things to do, also got to the top of the hill and started to duke it out with the French. They also had a good pop at the French grenadiers and dragoons that were trying to get to the village.

All to no avail though. In typical fashion, the French voltigeurs up and absconded with Lady Fakham (who didn't actually seem to be protesting quite as much as she should have...) and made their way back to their own lines.
The Portuguese advance had been halted quite dramatically by a large formation of French conscripts and without the cavalry to act in a supporting role, the Portuguese thought it would be better to save as many men as possible for a future engagement.
A poor show indeed for the Portuguese-British alliance but rest assured they will make a return and pay the French back for the dastardly kidnapping of Lady Fakham.
Below is a little gallery of a couple more game shots and the Portuguese I have amassed so far. They are a mix of Perry, Warlord, Brigade Games and a couple of Front Rank. I have a couple of not so well known units to do including some marines and the Loyal Lusitanian Legion. Buildings for the game were a mix of Grand Manner and OSHIRO all painted by me. The terrain boards were also made by me along with the two orchards. Olive trees I believe are from Last Valley.
cheers
