Honda Clan for Salute 52

Writer's picture: OSHIROblogOSHIROblog

As part of the participation game for Salute I'm sorting out and organising what figures I'll need for the game. The rules call for units of eights, tens or 12's with the majority of ashigaru units falling into the tens category.

The picture above shows the Honda clan so far. There needs to be another couple of ashigaru units, a samurai unit and a leader with his retinue. This should give a good idea of the force size required.

All the figures for the game (and in fact around 95-8% of my collection) are Perry miniatures, which I've been collecting since they first came out all those years ago. I've only painted around half but hope to get quite a lot more done this year.

I'll do a fairly detailed synopsis of the rules closer to the time but for now I'm spending spare time arranging the figures for the day as I have a loose idea of the scenario. To give a rough idea, it's a you-go-I-go system but there are opportunities to intercept the other player/s. Fatigue takes a role as do tokens for each leader which will allow certain actions to be taken. Units can also combine to give mixed weaponry.

The intention is to have siege rules and also boarding/landing rules (although I don't produce Japanese ships in 28mm anymore I will be making them in 15mm). The basic siege rules should be ready for Salute as the yamashiro blogged about earlier will be part of the table.

The primary dice will be D10 and modifiers will be available with casualty removal. I also hope to get a set of suitable counters made in resin but they might not be ready for Salute so I'll have some acrylic tokens ready just in case (although they won't look as nice).

I already have (I think) enough Sanada troops painted for a force but I will be getting them out of their box next month to check and tart up if necessary.

I think I will eventually do a painting guide for Japanese figures and although I'm certainly not great hopefully it will help those of you that can be intimidated by painting samurai/ashigaru etc.
